About this course
If you've mastered the basics of Photoshop and you're ready to get to professional levels then this advanced course will set you on the right path.
Some of the best features of Photoshop are well-kept secrets that are hard to reveal until you've covered the essential topics explored in Level 1 and Level 2. This course will explore those features, making it ideal for designers, photographers and digital media professionals looking to master topics that are too challenging to attempt on your own.
What you will learn
Unlike our Photoshop for Photographers course, this class is a little broader, making it suited to those in a variety of roles or with a more general interest.
We'll begin with a review of layer techniques, moving onto more advanced topics such as adjustment layers, masking layers, layer groups and layer comps, some of which have been touched on in earlier classes albeit with less detail.
The course will then examine advanced masking techniques and alpha channels before a discussion of layer blend modes – a topic which often challenges newcomers but opens a range of creative possibilities.
We'll then look at vector drawing and masking including the use of the pen tool and shape tools, as well as how to place shapes from Illustrator.
Photoshop CS4 introduced some advanced 3D modelling tools which have been further extended in CS5. While this is a specialist topic, we will be taking you through some techniques for placing, rotating and extruding 3D objects.
The course will also look at recording, editing, downloading and running Actions (Photoshop's Macro language) and other techniques for improving your productivity and workflow such as keyboard shortcuts and customisations.
Time will also be spend on the troublesome topic of colour management, giving you some tips to ensure consistent colour between devices and how to work with device colour profiles.
Assumed knowledge

This course will assume a reasonable knowledge of Photoshop or the prior attendance of our Photoshop Level 1 and Level 2 courses.
We'll be looking at some of the new and enhanced features of recent versions so ideally you'll have access to Photoshop CS5 or at least CS4.
