About this course

Abobe Captivate is a much-needed solution to the problem of generating screen-based training demonstrations and assessments. It's suitable for any kind of learning solution but it is particularly useful for creating software training due it's unique capacity to record and annotate screen activity.

Captivate allows you to record complex on-screen processes, overlay audio narration, add animation or video sequences, and influence progress on the basis of successful completion of activities. It also contains a broad range of testing and "quizzing" tools which can be used to track results and integrate with learning management systems.

In this course we take you through the process of generating a range of training and teaching resources from simple software demonstrations to more complex scenario-based learning systems. We cover most of the program's features including screen recording, audio annotation, editing, quizz development and post-production.

Assumed knowledge

Beginners are welcome to attend this course as we will assume little in terms of prior knowledge but you should be comfortable working with Mac or Windows computers and have a reasonable aptitude for digital media.

Note that this course is also suitable for those with some experience but if you've been using the product for a while then custom training may be more appropriate. If in doubt, Contact our office to discuss your needs.

What you will learn

This course will provide you with sufficient knowledge to competently work with Adobe Captivate.

We'll begin with a tour of the application, using a simple example to examine the three major viewing modes: Project, Edit and Branching.

We'll then create our own project, starting with the recording of a simple screen activity before editing the sequence, adding captions, changing backgrounds and adding voiceovers.

We'll then move on to more complex examples, adding questions and recording quiz results, adding animation and video and creating conditional paths.

Finally, we'll look at processing quiz results, integrating with learning management systems and publishing to SWF for browser delivery.
