About this course
If you're a professional or enthusiast photographer then this course in Photoshop for Photographers is just what you need. Unlike our more general courses, this course focuses on digital photography and image processing using camera RAW, adjustment layers, masking, alpha channels, colour correction and much more.
The rise of digital cameras from novelty to formidable engineering has seen extraordinary improvements in every aspect of quality along with corresponding reductions in cost. But the need to process photographs with Photoshop (or Lightroom or Aperture is greater than ever. This course addresses that need from a professional perspective.
What you will learn

Photoshop is a deep program, rich in features and containing a vast range of filters and menu items. This course will concentrate on those features of the application which are used to correct and enhance digital photographs.
We'll begin with a review of essential imaging adjustments such as Levels, Curves and Shadow/Highlight filters, examining some advanced approaches to those filters that are often overlooked. We'll then move onto a thorough examination of adjustment layers, looking at non-destructive approaches to editing using layers and Smart Filters.
The course will then examine masking techniques and alpha channels before a discussion of blend modes and how these can be used to create greater depth and colour control in digital photographs.
Time will also be spent on understanding 16 bit colour mode, the Camera Raw, and the use of Adobe Bridge to edit and examine EXIF and IPTC data and how these features can be used in a commercial workflow.
Assumed knowledge

This course will assume a reasonable knowledge of Photoshop or the prior attendance of our Photoshop Level 1 and ideally Level 2 courses. It is pitched at roughly the same level as our Level 3 course but considering it's more specialised subject matter you could omit the earlier levels if you're reasonably confident with the basics. You should also be familiar with digital photography and related concepts.
