About this session
LinkedIn is a brilliant resource and becoming better every day. But as the service evolves into something more sophisticated, it becomes more complex to use. There's a lot to learn...
In this tutorial we'll show you how to get the very best out of LinkedIn either as a professional individual or as a representative of a business entity. We'll be exploring both free and premium services, making some recommendations as to the best way to spend or save money, and providing plenty of guidance as to where to direct your energy so as to get the most out of what it can offer.
What you will learn
We'll begin with a brief overview of LinkedIn: how it works, how people are using it, and how to get started.
We'll then get down to business by looking at the most critical aspects of the service, notably the profile areas, connections, the power of Groups, and the options for advertising and premium accounts.
As with other forms of social media, building your network connections is an important part of the process. We'll be looking at some strategies for achieving network growth and learn how to be seen by the people and companies that matter.
We'll also look at options for extending LinkedIn through applications and services such as SlideShare, Tripit, Events and Polls, and connecting your profile through Facebook and Twitter.
Along the way we'll be examining some successful case studies and examples of company pages, profiles and campaigns that really work.
Assumed knowledge
We'll be assuming you know what LinkedIn is and that you've at least created an account and basic profile. We won't be assuming a lot in terms of advanced use but if you're a complete newbie, then we encourage you to set up a free LinkedIn account and familiarise yourself with the basics.
